What is a Private Property Impound?

A Private Property Impound is the removal and storage of a vehicle parked on private property that does not comply with posted rules, or regulations set forth by state of Texas.

What are the rules governing the removal of cars without the owner's consent?

Non-consent tows originating on private property are regulated by Chapter 2308 of the Texas Occupations Code.

Why was my car towed?

Cars are impounded by J&J Towing because they are parked in violation of posted rules, stated on red-and-white signs (normally located at the entrances and exits of a parking facility), or because they are parked in violation of the Texas Transportation code, hindering access to driveways, parked in Handicap Access Points, or along clearly marked fire lanes.

What do I need to bring to retrieve my vehicle?

To pick up your motor vehicle, you will need a valid government-issued photo-identification document, and proof of ownership, such as a current insurance card, registration receipt, or title. If these documents are inside the vehicle, you will be allowed to retrieve them by J&J personnel to establish the right to possession of the vehicle.

What if I don’t own the vehicle?

To retrieve a vehicle that you are not the owner of, you will need Texas Form VSF013 completed according to the instructions. This form along with a government issued ID may be used to retrieve a vehicle. Form can be downloaded using the link: Form VSF013

What forms of payment do you accept?

J&J Towing accepts cash, debit cards, and Visa or Mastercard credit cards. If paying with cash please bring exact amount, we do not always have change. All card payments will incur a 3% processing fee.

What does it cost to retrieve my vehicle?

The towing fee for an impounded vehicle is set by the City of Austin at $185.00

There is an additional $22.85 "impoundment fee" for processing a vehicle. This included making sure all doors are locked and windows are closed, reporting the tow to local law enforcement, and running the vehicle's license plate through the state-wide database.

Storage is assessed at $22.85 per calendar day, with the second day starting no sooner than 12 hours after the time of the tow.

After 24 hours, J&J Towing is required to generate certified letters to all owners and lien-holders for the impounded vehicle. This will incur an associated $50 "notification fee."

Local sales tax is applicable to storage and impoundment fees.

What if I don't pick up my vehicle?

After 45 days, vehicles will be sold at public auction by J&J Towing.
